Later, he started assisting V. V. Vinayak from his first film Aadhi as an Associate Director and became a Co-Director too. Right from the first movie of Dil Raju Productions "Dil", Varma has given his support and stood as a backbone to Dil Raju's direction department and the support is still being provided. In 2009, Dil Raju has given first direction opportunity to Varma, also to launch a star kid Naga Chaitanya(son of Nagurjuna) in the same project Josh. He also got a chance to launch another star kid Karthika Nair (Daughter of yesteryears star actress Radha) in the same movie. With Josh he has placed a mile stone in his career as one of the very rare directors, who launched two star kids in one movie. After Josh, Varma has gotten another chance for his second movie by Dil Raju.
